  • When Swifty went to check his rig before Combe he found to his horror that his trailer had been nicked! It could have been worse, the 308 had been on it, but the miscreants had taken it off and left it - they obviously thought it was a Fiero based replica. Despite this, Swifty was flying at Combe, though if he knew why he was keeping schtum about it. Mind you those Pontiac V6s can be tweaked to give decent horsepower...
  • Faced with the prospect of yet another Culver win, his opponents were discussing the best way to beat him. One reckoned the only way was to follow him into the loo, then cosh him! We suggest you keep your crash hat on at all times Gary.
  • Gooders was another who was going well after a disappointing effort at Snett. This can be entirely attributed to the "driver motivational briefing" he was given at Chateau Mineeff. We hope the cheque's in the post Jon.
  • There was a fair bit of driver psyching going on. Mike Spicer told Gooders (hillclimbers both) that he would eat his hat if Jon beat him. Helpful spectators suggested that, as it was leather, marinading it in red wine and bunging it in the bottom of the AGA for a few hours should do the trick. As it turned out the hat remained uneaten. Best not take it to a hillclimb though Mike.
  • William Jenkins had jetted in from Switzerland as usual, and had a tyre blow going into Quarry. It was revealed that it had been fitted by another competitor going about his day-to-day business. Was this an example of the class struggle being carried into Ferrari racing?
  • Richard Atkinson-Willes GT4 was an unfortunate retirement with bits of piston found in the airbox. When asked what the problem was by a tifoso he replied "Piston broke". "So am I mate" came the reply. The old ones are the best...
  • When told that the race had been reduced to 15 mins, Swifty said this would handicap him as he comes into his own later in the race. Fellow competitors suggested that he start without them and they would try to catch him up. As it was, Swifty had the last laugh....
