  • Not a good meeting for tow cars. Stuart Anderson's venerable Granada tow-er suffered a head gasket failure on the way to the circuit. Undaunted Stuart unloaded the 250 TR replica and completed the journey in that. We hear that Ray Hanson's tow car burnt out on the way and he too drove to the circuit in his race car. Who needs a tow car?

  • When it is not your day...... Having first lost his tow car Stuart then failed to make the race as he lost his brakes prior to the off.
  • It was Ross Warburton's first ever circuit race, his previous experience being with rallying. The 275 was a beautiful sight. What a shame that the similar promised entry from David Cottingham didn't make it due to a date clash with Spa.
  • Equipe Culver had another busy week-end. Running both the 328 and his 360/Ch Gary had classic qualifying plus GT250 free practice and qualifying on Friday, a classic race plus GT250 2nd Qualifying and 1st race on Saturday, and GT250 2nd race Sunday. He will have known his way round by the end.
  • The paddock had lots of old PMFC faces. Robin Mortimer's Porsche team were there for the GT race and son Alex was piloting one of the beautifully turned out cars. John Wilson was one of the leading TGP entries in his Tyrrell, a race that also included Peter Sowerby in his Arrows A3. Rod Carman was driving a Damax GT 360 and Ian Khan was driving a GT3 RS Porsche in the same race, as was David Ashburn.
  • N.P-Bs 328, on loan from Graham Reeder, is in fact an old friend. First raced by Thornton Mustard it was then campaigned by Scott Winnard. The car had gone to seed a little and had been for sale for years prior to going to Graham. Raced on tyres that were on the car when Scott raced it all those years ago it is amazing what can be achieved with some decent prep. Quite how old the tyres were we don't know as Pirelli refused to tell the concerned driver !
  • Timing at Brands is state of the art and drivers are able to access a great deal of information. In addition to lap times there are sector times and also speed traps, to add to their confusion. The start/ finish speed trap was quite interesting. Fastest in practice were the two modified 308s of Swift and Jenkins at 116 and 115 mph. In the race the lead 328s were also in this region. Even the slowest eight cylinder car was doin' 101 mph. The exit speed from Clearways has a great influence on this of course - not just the power of the engine. By comparison the Culver 360/Ch showed over 132 mph in PMFC.
