Thanks to Gary for this, sent by BlackBerry! "It had been some years since our series had visited Zolder in Belgium. With a temperature in the pits of 41°C, this could have been the hottest ever race for our drivers. There was no pre-event practice, and as only a very few drivers had raced there before, everyone had to find their pace immediately for the first qualification. In Classic, and as usual David Tomlin (328 GTB) was trying hardest, but succumbed to a gravel trap whilst trying for a flying lap. However team Cartwright looked the most relaxed in all the heat - brothers Jim and Ben pretty much set the pace all week-end. Jim Cartwright took a well deserved win in the first Classic race, after Culver was penalised for jumping the start. The second classic race was a real corker ! Ben C had a good getaway, and was closely chased by GC Jim C and Tomlin. GC grabbed the lead by lap two, but could not shake off the flying 328's of JC, BC and DT. JC tried hard to break down Culver's defences, and after twenty minutes of fantastically close racing took his opportunity and the lead on the very last lap ! So for the last few corners JC was under pressure from Culver. Whilst covering his lead into the very last corner, jim made a tiny error on the brakes. This allowed Culver to change his exit line, get a drag down the straight and cross the finish line just 1/10 second in front. No results available. Next meeting: 21 August Oulton Park.
