- Big trouble in the Roden camp. After Heat 1 a couple of stickers were
removed from the pair of 360/Chs in order to make them more photogenic
for a publicity shoot. This was apparently contrary to Championship
Regulations and aroused the ire of our Championship Co-ordinator, who
went looking for Stewart in the paddock. Wisely he kept well out of
the way and the stickers immediately returned to their rightful place.
- After his engine failed in Heat 1 Ollie stood forlornly in the paddock
with a pencil and a piece of paper in his hand which he had to get all
the drivers to sign stating they had no objection to him swapping cars.
Pretending that he didn't know the other drivers he got someone to walk
him around and get the required crosses on the paper. For some reason
he was thereafter nicknamed "Kevin". Could anyone please explain
this?
- The usual Moodies hospitality was dispensed with and instead Jim and
Janet Race brought out their wondrous Snetterton buffet on the weekend.
Before the Races arrived Lynn and Derek Seymour looked after the running
of the little hospitality enclave which was much used by the Ferrari
drivers and their supporters.
- It was a trend started by Roden Motorsport : stack all your wheels
outside your wagon and show everybody how many you have got. This was
immediately picked up by the SCS boys and we now expect intense competition
next year to see who's got the most wheels. It meant they even had to
clean the pesky things, good news for the drivers.
- The end-of-season Prize-Giving Dinner was held on Sunday night at
a nearby hostelry. John Mangoletsi was Guest of Honour and charmingly
reminisced about some of the old Ferrari drivers he had come across
when his father used to take him racing. John Newman from Ferrari UK
and Martin Pallot from co-sponsors Pirelli reflected upon the past season,
and Club Chairman Jack Sears formally thanked all the sponsors for their
contribution to a great season's racing.
- At the dinner, in addition to the Class Championships awarded to Gary
Culver, Robin Ward and John Taylor, some other major awards were presented.
Gary Culver won the Worswick Trophy for the most overall wins in the
season. David Preston won the Stirling Cup as Preparer of the Year and
the Wilkinson Driver of the Year was awarded to ........ Robin Ward
for his spectacular performance at Spa Francorchamps.
- The only thing wrong with the hotel was that darned helicopter that
decided to take off at 7am from the back lawn. Suspicion rested on Jonathan
Palmer because his odd looking Palmer Audis were having a race at Snetterton,
and he has been known to fly around in the clattery things.
- Ace photographer Paul Jarmyn had some rushing about to do. He was
at Snetterton for the PMFC race on Saturday, then got up at five in
the morning on Sunday to cover the Veloqx 360GTs running in the Donington
FIA race and then got back to Snetterton in time for the dinner. Apparently
one or two cameras flashed en route so maybe his Lexus is going
to have to rest up for a while.
