Once again the Ferrari Open racers had their race amalgamated with another due to low entries, something that has bedevilled the series since its inception in 2006. The date was also moved to the 26th Sep so that the Ferraris could run at the AMOC meeting in the so-called Super GT race. Even so, there were only 10 in total for qualifying and only five Ferraris. Quickest Ferrari was Marco Pullen in his wild-looking “388GTO” and he also took third on the grid behind a TVR and something called a GT700R (no, we don’t know either....). Dave Tomlin (355/Ch) was next quickest Ferrari ahead of Nigel Jenkins (355/Ch), Alan Cosby in the Kent Brushes F512M and David Hathaway (also 355/Ch). With the exception that Cosby retired, that’s the way they finished as well. Pullen’s car was some 5 secs per lap quicker than the 355/Ch of Tomlin who led home the other two 355/Chs. Overall, the Pullen car finished third with the 355s in 6th, 7th and 8th. The final race for the Open boys will be at Silverstone on 18th October, again amalgamated with other cars, before it’s decision time as to what to do for the future. With the large number of Ferraris 430s and 360s racing in GT Cup and Britcar, never mind British GT, it seems anachronistic to limit the 'Open' cars to just a small segment of Ferrari models and, if it is to survive at all, it will need broadening to include all.
