RACES 5&6 : SNETTERTON : 19 JULY 2009 |
The 'Open' Series has struggled for grid numbers since its inception. Despite some good racing, grids of mostly 5 or 6 cars are just not viable on any level and are not acceptable to organisers. This was finally acknowledged at Snetterton and the Series was combined with AMOC Super GT and that's the way it will be at Oulton Park as well.
Strangely enough, the Pirelli Ferrari Open Class at Snett was won both times by Tris Simpson in his, err, Aston Martin Vantage GT4, the Aston having been allowed in in a vain attempt at getting the numbers of the 'Open' cars up. Fastest Fazzas were Wayne Marrs in Race 1 and Michael Dwane in Race 2, both driving 355 Challenges.
The increasing lack of any race report information has also made it more difficult to give the Open series proper coverage and so from now on, our coverage will be restricted to reports like this although we hope to post lots of Simon Cooke's excellent pics of the action.
