ISRS at Kyalami
6.12.98

Four F333SPs were on the grid at the final round of the International Sports Racing Series at Kyalami in South Africa.

The JP Giesse team car, which had already won the Championship, was on pole position with the usual driver pairing of Vincenzo Sospiri and Emmanuel Collard being joined this time by Mauro Baldi. They dominated the first half of the race but eventually had to retire with a starter motor failure.

The Ferrari team of Wayne Taylor/Eric van de Poele then took over the lead but dropped down to third place at the finish following tyre problems. The 333SP of Lavaggi/Chiesa finished fifth and the final 333SP of Theys/Lienhard was forced to retire with drive shaft failure.

The race was won by the Riley & Scott of Jerome Policand/Gary Formato which is the first time in the eight round ISRS series that a car other than an F333SP has won. Into second place came a further Riley & Scott driven by James Weaver/Butch Leitzinger.
