USRRC : Lime Rock : Theys/Lienhard take Victory
31.5.99

Mauro Baldi
The second round of the United States Road Racing Championship was held at Lime Rock Park and featured two Ferrari 333SPs, both of them from the Doran/MOMO stable. They had a tough reputation to defend because Doran 333s had won this race the last four times out of five.

Qualifying saw the two Dyson Riley & Scotts on the front row of the grid, with the two Ferraris of Lienhard/Theys and Baldi/Matthews just behind.

On the seventh lap of the two and a quarter hour race the Matthews Ferrari was involved in an accident and retired. The other 333SP, driven mostly by Didier Theys, gradually wore down the Riley & Scotts and was running a strong second with every prospect of passing the leading R & S being driven by team owner Rob Dyson. With six minutes remaining in the race, Theys suddenly spun his Ferrari but was able to continue and with only two laps to go before the end he passed the Riley & Scott to take a narrow win.
