SportsRacing World Cup : Brno : It's Lola Again
1.8.99

The JB Giesse 333SP of Collard/Sospiri was third on the grid.
The sixth round of the championship took place at the scenic Brno circuit in the Czech Republic. Qualifying saw the now usual good performance by the Judd-engined cars. The Lola-Judd of Gounon/Tinseau took pole from the R&S-Judd of de Lorenzi/Apicella, closely followed by three of the six Ferrari 333SPs entered, Collard/Sospiri taking third on the grid ahead of Baldi/Redon and Moncini/Pescatori.

Pescatori got involved in the first lap melee.
The race started badly for the Ferraris. Pescatori spun his 333 on the opening lap and was heavily collected by the similar car of Laurent Redon. The Redon/Baldi car retired on the spot, whilst the Pescatori/Moncini 333 lost six laps in the pits whilst its damaged rear suspension was repaired.

Father and son Zadra took a last-lap third place.
The Lola-Judd of Gounon/Tinseau and the R&S of de Lorenzi/Apicella vied for the leading position throughout the race, chased gamely by the quickest Ferrari of Collard/Sospiri until the R&S began to have severe understeer problems. This allowed Collard to move his Ferrari into second, one lap from the end and, on the final lap itself, Angelo Zadra took his Ferrari past the R&S into third.

With their second place, Emmanuel Collard now leads the World Cup championship. The next round takes place at the Nürburgring on 5th September.
