Barrichello Takes A Drive
He completed three laps in the morning and six in the afternoon, although fanciful commentators already had him completing 58 laps with a best time only about one second short of the Fiorano record. In fact his best time on a very slippery day was 1 min. 09 secs.
Because of contractual wrangles with his previous team, Stewart Ford, he was prevented from wearing or mentioning any of his new sponsors' names in a conversation with journalists and he was not even allowed to mention the name "Ferrari". He was reduced to calling it "a red car"!
Further testing at Fiorano will now begin in earnest before the team joins the rest of the F1 circus for general testing at Jerez in the middle of the month.

On 1st December Rubens Barrichello emerged for the first time from Enzo Ferrari's house at Fiorano, clad in red overalls, and took his place in an F399 for some exploratory laps around the test track.
