Tamiya leaves Ferrari
Following on from the exclusive licensing arrangement between Mattel and Ferrari SpA, the famous model-maker, Tamiya, has issued a tersely worded statement which says, in part, "We regretfully announce that our longstanding contract with Ferrari has come to an end. Due to Ferrari's exclusive contract with another company we must cease all sales and production of Ferrari-related products."
This will no doubt come as a disappointment to Ferrari model-builders in view of Tamiya's acclaimed range of accurate and detailed Ferrari models over many years.
A search through the Mattel website found no Ferrari-related products at all, so a period of some uncertainty may lie ahead.
Better news is that the agreement with Mattel apparently contains provisions for the sub-licensing of other model-makers.
