F550 Maranello For GT3
The surprise competition debut of the F550 Maranello took place on 10th September during the ninth and tenth rounds of the French GT championship. It was entered in the GT3 class under the banner of "Red Racing" and was driven by French ace, Lucien Guitteny and Patrick Camus. The car was built by a firm called Enjolras, who are also involved with the official Peugeot rally cars and on-track servicing was provided by the Modenese Italtechnica outfit. During the first race on Saturday the 550 started from the back of the grid but worked its way up to finish 16th out of 43 starters.
During Sunday's race the 550 was fighting in the top five of GT3 class when it retired with an over-heating problem. Its best lap time of 1:52.9 compared with the 1:50.6 of the leading Porsche 996.
Future plans for Red Racing are to move the 550 into the GT2 class with 1100 kilos weight and more than 600 bhp.
