SportsRacing World Cup : Nürburgring : Lola Take Another
Germany, 5.9.99

The seventh round of the nine-race Series attracted a fine 29-car entry for the 2½ hr. race at the Nürburgring. Included in the entry were no less than nine Ferrari 333SPs, including a rare appearance of the US-based Doran-Lista car of Lienhard/Theys.

Qualifying looked certain to be a pole position for the DAMS Lola of previous round-winners Gounon/Bernard but at the very last moment Christian Pescatori put the BMS Scuderia Italia 333SP at the head of the field. In third place followed the Giesse 333 of series leaders Collard/Sospiri, followed by the similar Ferrari of Lavaggi/Mazzacane ahead of the BMW V-12 of Bscher/Lamy.

The race was extremely close, with the DAMS Lola-Judd holding the narrowest advantage throughout over Pescatori, who drove three of the Ferrari's four stints. The gap after two and a half hours was just 15 seconds. Only ten seconds behind the second place Ferrari came the similar car of Collard/Sospiri, who further enhanced their Series' points advantage.

The BMW finished in fourth place and the next five places were all filled by 333SPs, with Baldi/Angelelli heading the queue. The Doran-Lista car of Lienhard/Theys retired, as did the GLV Brums entry of Lavaggi/Mazzacane.

The next round is at Magny Cours on 19th September, where Collard and Sospiri will be in a position to take the Drivers' title for the second consecutive year.
