SportsRacing World Cup : Magny Cours : Ferrari Back on Top
19.9.99

Eight Ferrari 333SPs took part in the eighth round of the SportsRacing World Cup, previously called the ISRS.

Whilst in the previous races the quicker Lolas had begun to show their dominance, this time it was three Ferraris who vied for pole position. Christian Pescatori, sharing with Emanuele Moncini, put his car on pole position but only narrowly ahead of Collard/Sospiri and the Zadra father and son team. Another two Ferraris took fourth and fifth spots.

Heavy rain commenced soon after the start of the race and caused many spins. Of the field of 19, only seven cars eventually took the chequered flag. Both the Giesse Ferraris of Baldi/Policand and series leaders Collard/Sospiri spun off.

All the rain-induced turmoil helped the Lola of Nielsen/Orbell to build up a healthy lead when it continued to run on slicks as the road got wetter, but their lead was nullified when the pace car came out for ten laps during the worst of the rain.

During this phase the Ferrari of Lavaggi/Mazzacane made its obligatory pit stops and when the race re-started it was able to re-take the lead from the Lola, which had to make a final stop.

The GLV Brums team therefore took their first victory ahead of the Lola and pole-sitters Pescatori/Moncini in their 333SPs.

No other Ferraris finished the race.
