Ascari is the supporters' club of the Ferrari Club Nederland
with its own committee. Ascari members assist at events of the club;
they man checkpoints in rallies and watch over the cars during lunches,
etc. On October 25th, 2003 it was 12½ years since the first
Ascari Meeting was organized and so a Jubilee Meeting was organized
at Italauto in Achterveld (Mid-Holland). It was combined with quite
a few activities, like driving a Ferrari, sniffing around in the
workshop of Italauto and a photo contest.
It was a memorable day for these members and their guests. It started
at 10:00am with signing on and the organizers compiling a time sheet
for the members who wanted to drive a Ferrari. It cost € 40
for 15 minutes and not surprisingly there was overwhelming interest
expressed. Next there was a possibility to passenger one of the
“regular” Ferrari club members.. There was plenty of
interest in this activity too and it went on all day. In the workshop
the Italauto mechanics explained everything about the technical
.phpects and restoration of Ferraris in general. There were also
parts on display like complete motors, cylinder heads, etc..
In the afternoon the event was transferred to the cottage itself,
where we all had lunch. This part of the event consisted of buying
and selling collectibles, like scale-models, books, magazines, posters
and photos. Some memorabilia donated by Ferrari Club members was
also given away.To end up, everybody could enter three photos they
had taken in a competition which was divided in three categories:
1. Historical races - Dutch participant
2. Historical races - V12 Ferrari(s)
3. Historical races - free.
The winning photos will be published in a calendar next year. I
entered three photos, one in each category. All of them were taken
at Shell historics meetings, two at Brands Hatch in 2002 and one
during the AvD Old-timer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. I won
Categories 1 and 3 and received a honourable mention in 2. That’s
why I do all this (I think)… The prizewinners were announced
at the end of the event and afterwards the Chairman of the Ascari
group thanked the photo jury and Kees van Stokkum of Italauto for
his hospitality, after that you could go home or stay for further
chat.
For now this was the last event for me so I can hibernate until
there’s something going on again in the world of Ferraris…
