The preliminary Rules and Regulations for the 2005 Pirelli Maranello Ferrari Challenge have been drafted. They are still in an early format and have yet to be submitted to the UK's Motor Sports Association.
The big news is that the 2005 series will run as part of the Formula Palmer Audi package and will share their prestigious paddock facilities, including the hospitality. All events wil take place at Palmer's Motor Sport Vision circuits, with two overseas rounds at Spa and Monza. The preliminary calendar is as follows:
(All events are double-headers) The dates for the Spa and Monza races will be announced within the next few days. Both of these races races will feature special 'invitation' drivers. A major innovation is the introduction of a so-called Aero Pack for the 360 Challenge tipos. This will consist of a specified rear wing and front splitter package and will be similar to the aero devices run in the British GT series. Another change is the replacement of the old "O" class (for standard cars) with a new "SuperRoad" class. This will allow any road-going Ferrari tipo to race in standard configuration as built by the Factory. Factory-fitted performance options, such as Fiorano packs, will be permitted. All SuperRoad cars must run on treaded road tyres according to the RAC Blue Book. Typical cars eligible for the new SuperRoad class will be F40s, F50s, Maranellos, 360 Modenas, 355 and 348 tipos as well as any other V-12 or Flat 12 road cars. This casts a very wide net and it is hoped to be a popular class amongst those wishing to run standard cars on road tyres. Further details will be announced once the 2005 Sporting and Technical Regulations have been approved and issued.
