Calum Lockie and Bo McCormick scored a remarkable victory in the two-hour
EERC Britcar race at Brands Hatch on Saturday (16 April). Racing McCormick's
Ferrari 360 against more powerful opposition, the duo had a perfect run
to win the race overall.
McCormick started the race and was able to avoid a multi-car accident
at Druids on the opening lap that sidelined several leading cars. The
casualties included the BMW M3 of David Leslie/Harry Handkammer and so
immediately one of the Ferrari's major class rivals was out.
McCormick pitted in tenth place just before the half-way mark and Lockie
got down to business. With less than ten minutes to go, the Ferrari was
leading its class by a comfortable margin and was running second overall
to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup of Bill Cameron/Kelvin Burt. With the Porsche
more than half a lap clear, Lockie was now concentrating on getting the
car safely to the finish. But, with just six minutes to run, the Porsche
suffered mechanical problems and was forced to retire, giving the Ferrari
the lead!
Craig and Elliott Cole were second overall in their 360. Less fortunate
was David Back, running solo in his 360. He retired on lap 95 after a
trip into a gravel trap, however he had been up to fourth place at one
stage.
Pirelli Maranello Ferrari Challenge sponsor and driver Witt Gamski, partnered
by Keith Robinson were 11th in their 355 Challenge.
McCormick and Lockie will team up again to race the Ferrari in the Britcar
five-hour race at Snetterton on 21/22 May.
