Around 60 Ferraris gathered at the showroom of Ferrari importer Munsterhuis in Enschede at the start of this Ferrari Club Nederland organised event. Some oldies, but mainly new Ferraris, all shining and well taken care of caught the attention of some lucky passers by. Of course, there were also the usual visitors, photographers and Telaio spotters as well. The members of Ascari [Dutch PHR - Ed.] took care of the parking and security of the cars, while the drivers with their partners or co-drivers were enjoying some coffee inside the showroom, talking to other members of the club. They also received their starting number and a road book. And, of course, there was “Twentsche Krentewegge”… a “flat currant-bun”… sort of… After the last car arrived - a nice red Enzo - the parking area was full and at last it was possible to gape at and photograph the last arrived cars - like the Enzo, a Scaglietti and a F430 - without interference from objects and people. At half past ten the first car was started but I for that matter was already gone. 15 minutes before, I took my stuff and searched for a spot to catch the first Ferrari "in the wild". It was in a little village called Buurse: a few houses, a church and a pub very near the German border. Some other photographers and I took our first shots here before we continued and drove to the first stop in Germany at a castle in Bad-Bentheim. I knew the Castle as a very photogenic place, especially with some old Ferraris it would give me some nice shots. The drivers and their partners made a tour of the castle accompanied by the Castle specialist Ute, who answered all their questions. Again the members of Ascari took care of the Ferraris because it needed some experience to park the cars properly. And they were guarded, because there were lots of spectators who came to the parking lot. Some classic Ferraris, like the 250 GT Lusso, were parked on the inner court of the Castle. The new tipos were too low-slung to get in! After the Castle tour and the possibility to eat something in “Café im Schloss” (free translation: “pub in the Castle”) the rally went on. For the cars that were parked on top of the hill it meant a nasty drive down through holes and over bumpy cobblestones. After that off they went to the highway, where they could use their Ferraris for what Enzo made them for in the first place, back to Holland. On the quiet piece of the road there were opportunities enough to use the throttle as it should and most of the drivers did. Once back in Holland we took the first exit and drove through the nice surroundings of Twente - one of our beloved provinces in the east - past nice cottages, studs and farms of all kind. By then we were hungry and went for the lunch in Denekamp, one of the towns in that area and after that all the participants visited another Manor (Havezathe) where some questions had to be answered to win point for the results. All this happened under a very bright sky with a lot of hours of sunshine. The finish eventually was in Ootmarsum and the winners…? All those who had a good time!
