After
a year’s break, the Viva Italia event on the Assen TT circuit was
held again this Easter. As usual a lot of Italian machinery gathered at
the Dutch MotoGP track. Although the Ferrari Club Nederland does not officially
participate in the event, normally a relatively large number of Ferraris
attend. This year was no exception and lots of modern Maranello cars found
their way there.
The most impressive car there was one of only 25 512BBLM racers. A rarity
was an upgraded 348 TB which tried to convince people it was a 355. The
sole F430 present attracted crowds when the engine lid was opened. Among
the other Ferraris there was a large share of 308s and other eight cylinders;
together with several Testarossas and Boxers, they represented the marque.
Other Italian car clubs do have this event on their calendar and therefore
rare Italian cars could be sighted as well. Less known makes as De Tomaso
and Iso presented some interesting cars with several Panteras, Deauvilles
and Grifos respectively. As always, the Lamborghini Club had a large display
with many cars from the history of the marque. Although reportedly only
twenty six Lancia Hyenas were ever made, no less than two could be found
in the paddock.
Other interesting cars included a Alfa Romeo Monza and Maserati 3500 GT.
With owners being able to drive their cars on the track a great turn-out
is always guaranteed despite the bad weather forecast. This year the rain
started to fall in the afternoon and several participants and visitors
returned home sooner than planned; but for those who were there it had
been a nice day nevertheless.
