The Prancing Horse variety on track the Le Mans Classic and again would have sated the desires of most. Antoine Midy’s 1955 121 LM howling through Tertre Rouge was a highlight for me as was Gaye’s handling of his 250 GT short wheelbase in the face of frenzied attacks by cars from the ‘English garagists’ as Enzo used to call Lotus et al. Night time and Daytona LMs doesn’t get much better either.
Whilst the Maranello has now been usurped on the current international scene by erstwhile protagonist Aston Martin, a visit to the LMES 1000 Kms at Donington rewarded with sight and sound of the Convers Menx Team car as well as the GPC 430 GTs. Am I alone in liking the competition 550/575s as real racing cars in a world of so many compromises?
Then the Revival and as I haven’t got a book to write you can look at the pictures instead. Favourites? ’64 GTO, Alain de Cadanet in the Lancia D50 Ameliorata, Gary Pearson flinging Carlos Monteverde’s 250 LM round in slippery conditions – the list goes on…….
