An exclusive custom-made version of the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, commissioned from Pininfarina by the American Ferrari collector Peter S. Kalikow, was exhibited at the 2006 Villa d’Este Concours d’Elégance. Peter S. Kalikow, Chairman of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and President of one of New York City’s leading real estate firms, asked Pininfarina to design, engineer and build a special version of the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, with a styling development aimed to enhance the car’s own elegance and exclusiveness. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, whose “Gran Turismo Soul” perfectly matches with class and elegance, is currently the most exclusive car within Ferrari’s model range. For these reasons, the development commissioned by Peter Kalikow has been accepted by Ferrari as an enhancement of its own myth and tradition and as a strengthening of the relationship with Pininfarina, established at the time when the Turin coachbuilder created exclusive models for car enthusiasts all over the world. The whole project has been based on some clear and simple wishes expressed by the customer: “The car should be totally re-bodied, but the style changes should be so light and fine to allow no more than 10% of Ferrari experts to catch them at a first glance”. The customer has personally followed the style development and has actively contributed to the selection of the car features and to the choice of colours and materials. Peter Kalikow’s special 612 Scaglietti has been developed as a real custom-built car. It has been equipped with a series of accessories specifically required by the customer to enjoy maximum comfort during the daily use. The work has been managed by Pininfarina’s Special Project Division and its manager Paolo Garella and has been carried out at the ateliers in Cambiano; the result of this activity is a unique car, modern and classic at the same time and perfectly fitting the spirit of Peter Kalikow’s exclusive Ferrari collection. The main special features of the car are the recessed front grille, reminiscent of fifties and sixties models; a glass roof with a combination of liquid crystals and photovoltaic cells; a wide air outlet on the front fenders, evolving from the side panel volumes; fins enveloping the rear backlight and inspired by the most beautiful drawings made by Pininfarina; rear lights recalling the Ferrari Enzo. The interior has been modified according to the customer’s wish and has been equipped with devices allowing to comfortably feel and drive in a custom-made compartment, where all details have been conceived and designed exclusively for him. The “tobacco brown” leather was supplied by Italian’s specialist Poltrona Frau (the color is the 1990s Connolly A-4480, not the Cuoio A-4609). Pininfarina’s work underlines the company’s choice to provide its selected customers with the unique opportunity of designing, engineering and building their “dream car”. By keeping constantly focused on the product and on its demanding customers, Pininfarina aims to stress its tradition of excellence and the values that brought the company to be a model in the automotive field. Style, quality, the special features and the very limited volumes for Pininfarina Special Projects make each car a cult object which will afford its owner the ultimate automotive satisfaction. Pininfarina Special Projects is the company unit devoted to satisfying the needs of collectors and clients wishing to enjoy the ultimate experience of creating their own automobile. By maintaining this exclusive service Pininfarina wants to underline his focus on the client, offering bespoke timeless design, robust engineering and outstanding quality. The client is at the centre of the process, can be active part in the design of his car, dictate the briefing, follow all engineering and development process, see live the vehicle assembly and finally enjoy a unique driving experience. Starting from the root of the company, Andrea Pininfarina, Pininfarina’s CEO, has driven the reinterpretation of the traditional Service to Client approach, offering all the state of the art technologies that the group has today. From the full scale vision of the mathematical style model, to the latest CAD and CAE tools, up to the dynamic testing on the Pininfarina Testing ground, the client enters in a secret world normally accessible only to a selected few in the industry. It is important to underline that the programme is aimed to the creation of usable cars, that the client can use every day, driving in an atmosphere that only an interior designed around his wishes can offer. Given the exclusivity of the service and the high level of skill required to build such vehicles, only a very limited number of cars will be produced every year. In the case of the one-off 612 Kappa built for Peter Kalikow the client owns all copyrights and moulds for his special car. Kalikow’s new 612 has serial number 145746 (full VIN is ZFFAA54A260145746) and is fully DOT approved for USA. The exterior color is Pozzi Blue (pre-2002).
