We recently reported that Shell were to celebrate their relationship wirh Ferrari by making the most expensive TV ad. ever. This was to feature F1 Ferraris zooming round the streets of Sydney, London and New York. However, things do not seem to have started as smoothly as a tribologically interested organisation could have hoped. There are reports circulating on the internet that filming was due to begin in Sydney last week when, at the last minute, the government in the state of New South Wales allegedly denied the film crew the necessary permits to film. When it was allegedly suggested that they could obtain the permit by making a certain – ahem – "charitable contribution", a halt was called to production and the entire crew packed up and left. Do they grow bananas in Oz? Wonder if this'll give Ken Livingstone an idea for a revised Congestion Charge? Will a checker cab shunt Badoer off in NY? Antipodean F1 fans, including the descendants of pioneering British compulsory emigrants, will get the chance to see an F1 car on the streets during a demo down Melbourne's Lygon Street to promote the forthcoming Aussie GP. However, the cars will be restricted to 60kph (37mph)! Is it possible to drive an F1 car this slowly? The best comment we have seen was on a blog: "maaaaaaaaaaaaaaateee - ma monaro dus 100 down there on a Satttrday nite!".
