There are numerous reports circulating on the internet that Ferrari
owner Fiat Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Sergio Marchionne
was involved in an accident when his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano collided
with a Renault late Friday on the Swiss A1 highway near the city of
Basel. A police press report states that Marchionne was travelling at
about 100 km/h (62 mph) when the Renault's 76 year old French driver
braked suddenly in front of him, causing the Ferrari to hit it.
The impact caused the 599's airbags to deploy, blocking the driver's
sight. Reports say he then lost control of the car and it rammed into
the crash barriers. Fortunately, both Marchionne and the driver of the
Renault escaped unhurt.
