21.11.12 Footie players seem to have a penchant for buying Ferraris - then crashing them. You may recall that three years ago that Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo bashed his 599 when working for Manchester United. This morning the interweb was alive with reports that the poor thing was for sale on eBay France by what might be described as a "automotive recycler" with a guide price of €50,000. A immediate search found it's been pulled; but not before some pics escaped. Since the crash Ronaldo has changed supercar allegiance, buying himself a Lamborghini Aventador earlier this year for his 27th birthday. However this didn't bring him much luck as it broke down a month later and had to be recovered. Co-incidentally he was back near the scene of his 599 accident last night where apparently he played a key role in knocking Man City out of the Champions' League. Last year Portuguese player Ricardo Costa wrecked his 599 whilst returning home from training. Reports stated that he just lost control and stuffed it into a hedge. Like Ronaldo, the hapless Costa was unhurt but his Father, who was travelling with him, suffered a nervous breakdown from which we hope he has recovered. As has been suggested before in similar circumstances maybe football clubs should insist their players all drive Volvos. The V40 1.6 diesel recently recorded the highest score of any car to undergo the Euro NCAP crash tests. Got to be more reliable too.... |
