Ferrari’s annual ‘Wroom’ event has been cancelled for 2014 due to increasing costs on the part of the sponsor, Philip Morris.
‘Wrooom’ acts as the curtain-raiser for Ferrari’s promotional activity in the calendar year with the team members converging on Madonna di Campiglio ski resort in Italy for plenty of events in the snow, ranging from skiing to ice racing. However, for 2014, the event will not go ahead after the tobacco giant confirmed that it would not be backing the festivities.
“The costs of the event are no longer sustainable therefore we are forced to delete it from our activities,” the vice-president of Philip Morris told Corriere della Sera.
Despite tobacco sponsorship being banned from Formula One cars since 2008, Philip Morris (through its subsidiary, M*rlb*r*) still has a great deal of input at Ferrari.
