It is for scoring Ferrari's first ever GP win in the 1951 British GP (375) that Argentinean González will best be remembered. Few will recall will that his other GP win was also in a Ferrari (625) and also in the British GP, in 1954. His F1 career effectively ended in 1957 although he made a one-off appearance in 1960 in his home GP in a 256 Dino.
A contemporary of fellow-countryman Juan Manuel Fangio, he was probably the only other driver to get the better of the iconic, but appalling 1.5 litre supercharged V16 BRM. Whereas The Maestro drove through its many problems, González just grabbed it by the scruff of its neck and hurled it up the road!
