FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP Practise was still on a slithery track but the likely contenders, Ward, Richard Allen (328GTB) and John Marshall (328GTB) were already showing good form. Newcomer Peter Hayman took his huge silver 512TR down the track with some aplomb ! The first competitive runs were unfortunately brought to a temporary halt when Mike Spicer's 308GT4 undid its oil filter and dropped the lot from the first corner to the finish. Much cement was used to mop it up, and it was Allen who ignored it the most to lead Marshall and Ward at the half-way point. The second and final runs, when the track was fine, produced a really close result. Ward won the class by less than a tenth from Marshall, with Nick Frost (348GTC) putting in his best ever Gurston time to run a very close third. Poor Richard Allen tried too hard, had a momentary off, and could only come fourth ahead of Hayman's 512TR and Stuart Bailey's 246GT. With the PEP's applied, John Marshall took maximum points ahead of Ward and Allen. The next round of the Championship takes place at Prescott on May 6/7.
