FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP Following the cancellation of the Loton Park round due to the fuel shortages the FHC circus moved to Shelsley Walsh for the penultimate round of the Championship. The Ferrari entry was only small - Jon Goodwin had failed to get an entry and Robin Ward had sold his very quick 308GTB and was therefore sharing Mike Spicer's 308GT4. The weather forecast was not great but Saturday's practice took place in fine weather and Geoff Rollason's 360 Modena looked to have it all its own way with a couple of highly competitive runs in the low 35s. Both Geoff Dark (308GT4) and Richard Allen (328GTB) were in the 36s, with Ward getting used to his new mount in the 38s. The competitive runs on Sunday saw persistently wet conditions with a very slippery track. With the 360 of Rollason not being able to use its full power advantage Allen and Dark led after the first runs. On the final run Dark took nearly two seconds off his time and thus won the class from Allen and Ward in the borrowed GT4. The car's owner, Mike Spicer, finished fourth ahead of the 360 of Rollason who did not bother taking his second run due to the unforgiving conditions. PMFC racer Andrew Duncan was having another go at hillclimbing with his 328GTS and finished sixth. The maximum PEP points went inevitably to Geoff Dark for his very good drive, with Allen and Ward taking the next two places. Robin Ward has, of course, now won the Championship and cannot be caught at the final round at Curborough on Sunday 1st October.
