FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP The final FHC round took place at the Curborough sprint track near Litchfield. A good entry of nine Ferraris turned out, led by Jon Goodwin's 355GTS, who was expected to take his sixth win in a row, although Brian Jackson in his 355/Ch would undoubtedly give brave chase. The two practice runs in the morning confirmed the likelihood that those two would battle for the front but Nick Frost (348GTC) maintained his recent run of form to take up the third slot less than a 100th behind Jackson. By some curiosity every single Ferrari was slower in the first competitive runs than they had been during practice! Jon Goodwin headed the times with a 35.77 followed by Jackson on 36.99 and Frost on 37.13. In an equal fourth place came Robin Ashley (246GTS) and Chris Hitchman (308GTS), ahead of John Dobson (308GT4), Mike Spicer (308GT4), with Peter Hitchman (355GTS) and Stuart Bailey (246GT) bringing up the rear. Then, however, the entire Ferrari class bizarrely agreed to forfeit their second runs as some of the drivers felt they had a long way to return home and wanted to leave early. The organising club, the MAC, was not amused at this gesture. One or two of the drivers were also not pleased but felt that they had to fall in with the majority decision. However, Brian Jackson did ultimately stay behind to take his second run, although this brought no improvement on his time. The results therefore stood as at the end of the first run, with Goodwin taking the overall win ahead of Jackson.
