FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
REPORT : ROUND 7 : PRESCOTT : 24/25JUNE
2000
A top-quality
11-car entry in the Ferrari class included tipos as diverse as the 246
Dino and 550 Maranello. Saturday's practice was just about dry and Geoffrey
Rollason (360 Modena) set the quickest time at a 50.37, ahead of the
usual chargers, including Robin Ward (308GTB), Geoff Dark (308GT4) and
Jon Goodwin (355GTS). The latter looked to have a really quick second
practice run but had a mighty moment coming out of Orchard and missed
Ettores completely. It promised to be a good competition on the Sunday.
The weather duly improved and it was Goodwin who set the only sub-50
sec. run, with a 49.67, to take the lead ahead of Rollason, Ward and
John Marshall (328GTB).
None of these front runners improved on their second runs and therefore
the overall order remained the same. Geoff Dark ended up fifth behind
the leading quartet, with Brian Jackson (308GTB) next up, ahead of Richard
Allen in the powerful 550 Maranello, who found the going a little ponderous
in the close confines of Prescott.
With the PEP percentages applied Robin Ward's excellent times gave him
the maximum 20 points, ahead of Jon Goodwin and John Marshall. With
seven rounds now run the top of the Championship table continues to
feature Ward and Marshall, with Goodwin in third place.
The next round of the Championship takes place on 22nd July at Loton
Park.
