FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
REPORT : ROUND 14 : LONGLEAT : 25 SEPTEMBER 1999

Run in filthy weather conditions, which caused the meeting to be called off after the first runs, Longleat saw the competition debut of the 360 Modena which had just been delivered to Richard Allen a few days earlier. Although running in the Ferrari class, he was ineligible for points as the tipo is so new that the Technical Regulations Committee had not yet decided on a PEP factor.

Robin Ward (308GTB) took the quickest time on the one and only run, followed by Geoff Dark (308GTB) and Stuart Bailey (246GT). Allen was still getting used to his new car, had a little trouble adjusting to the gear change, and then overshot the hairpin and had to reverse back on to the track.

Torrential rain after the first runs made the track impossible and the meeting was abandoned.

Robin Ward, by gaining maximum points, has thus won the 1999 Hillclimb Championship.

The final round of the Championship takes place at Curborough on 3rd October.
