FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
This two-day round of the British Hillclimb Championship was a busy time for all, with no less than four practice and two competitive runs. The Ferrari class was on the small side (eight) but the quality remained high, with no less a luminary than Richard Baker seeded second from last. The weather on both days remained dry and sunny.
Come Sunday, Richard Allen's well-developed ex-Maranello racer easily saw off the opposition and Richard's excellent first run time of 37.19 won the class by over 1.3 seconds and also established a new Ferrari record. Richard Barnett's more standard 328 produced two very consistent mid-38 second runs for yet another accomplished Gurston result. He won, you will remember, the hard-fought June meeting at this hill.
Geoff Dark brought his GT4 into third, have looked at various bits of scenery on both his fierce runs. Len Watson (328GTB), Christopher England (328GTS) and John Marshall (328GTB) formed the next gaggle, with Chris achieving his best-ever Gurston time.
Richard Baker was not able to put his GT4 amongst the 328s as he had at Harewood but Sally Maynard-Smith (328GTS) was very pleased to have achieved her personal goal of getting into the 40 second bracket, a feat which won her the Club handicap award. She will surely progress further as she focuses even further on her driving.
With the various PEP factors taken into consideration, Richard Allen's time was good enough to overcome his +3.0% handicap and he emerged a worthy points winner, followed by Richard Barnett and Richard Baker. The cumulative points situation remains confused until the recent PEP re-classification issue is finally resolved and therefore the attached listing remains provisional.
