PIRELLI MARANELLO FERRARI CHALLENGE
RACE REPORT : ROUND 8 : BRANDS HATCH :
8/9 JULY 2000
PADDOCK STORIES
- Graham Reeder's day was not without its problems. The 355's diagnostic
system shut down one bank of cylinders several times during the race,
causing him to slip further behind the class-winning Phil Nuttall.
- Never a lover of the wet, Ian Hetherington's drive in the open-topped
F50 must have given him a lot of confidence. He also put his F40GT
on to the front row of the Porsche vs. Ferrari race and on the second
row of the very competitive Intermarque grid.
- Whilst a few Ferrari hillclimbers have had a go at circuit racing
(Esom and Goodwin, to name but two) the most impressive to-date has
to be Robin Ward. His aggressive hillclimbing style, which many thought
would see him off at the first corner, changed to smooth precision,
which gave him an excellent result in the difficult conditions.
- Two F40s were in the Ferrari team in the Intermarque contest. Unfortunately
an errant Porsche put paid to both of them on lap one and neither
Pogson nor Hetherington finished.
- The tug-of-love over last year's Maranello Trophy apparently continues,
according to paddock pundits. Be interesting to see who ends up with
it. The RAC Stewards, of course, decreed that it belongs to John Pogson.
