SRWC : Monza : Ferrari Finishes Second
16.4.00

The second round of the SportsRacing World Cup had its usual fine Ferrari entry, with no less than six 333SPs taking part.

Pole position, however, went to young Tom Coronel, who was drafted into the Konrad team to drive their Lola-Ford. Second on the grid was the R & S Judd of Baldi/Formato, ahead of the first of the Ferraris - the GLV Brums car of Lavaggi/Filliberti.

Further Ferraris followed in fifth (M. Zadra/Peter) and then the remaining cars occupied 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th on the grid.

The Ferraris had difficulties in matching the pace of the front runners during the race. Coronel's Lola led until it retired with engine failure. The lead then swapped between John Nielsen in the Panoz and Baldi in the Riley & Scott until, during a sudden downpour, the Panoz fell away leaving Mauro Baldi (sharing with Gary Formato) to take the win.

The JMB Ferrari of Pescatori/Terrien, which had won the previous SRWC round at Barcelona, was driven particularly hard during the rainy period and took a narrow second place ahead of the Panoz.

Two further Ferraris finished fifth (Calderari/Bryner/Zadra) and sixth (Waaijenberg/van der Lof).

The next round takes places at Spa Francorchamps on 21st May.
