Ferrari Announces 1999 Sales Figures
Ferrari ended the 20th century with its sixth consecutive year of growth and consolidation, reflected in a total number of 3775 cars delivered to customers.
Since 1993, Ferrari has seen a strong and consistent upward trend in sales and from January 2000, with the addition of Qatar, it is now represented in 43 markets worldwide. The 4% sales growth in 1999 (vs 1998 ) was due in part to the launch of the all-new and highly successful Ferrari 360 Modena.
In the Spring of 1999, the 360 Modena replaced the F355, the best ever selling Ferrari model of all time. A total of 1418 360 Modenas were produced last year and currently there is a waiting list around the world. The 8-cylinder 1999 deliveries to customers was 2667 (F355 and 360 Modena) while the 12-cylinder 550 Maranello and 456 M accounted for the remaining 30%.
Despite the economic problems in the Far East, Ferrari bucked the trend with only a slight decrease (-4.5%), but Japan managed to increase deliveries to 263 cars, while Australia performed extremely well with 73 cars. However South America also experienced economy problems and 56 cars were delivered in 1999.
Elsewhere around the world, in the USA - Ferrari's largest market - sales were up by 22% with 1003 cars delivered to customers in 1999. Germany, the second strongest Ferrari market saw 620 cars, while the UK saw a 1.3% growth with 453 cars and Italy closed the year with 374 deliveries to customers. Other growth areas for Ferrari included Switzerland up by 2.3% to 219 cars while the Middle East, which saw a remarkable year in 1999 with a 24% increase (67 cars).
