Sebring 12-Hours – Little Ferrari Content
The entry list for the Sebring 12-Hour race closed at midnight on 1st March and it showed further confirmation of the demise of Ferrari as a leading contender in sports prototype racing.
Only one F333SP has been entered, the Doran/Lista car to be driven by Fredy Lienhard/Didier Theys/Mauro Baldi. Until a new model is developed (possibly to be badged as a Maserati) most of the Ferrari teams have switched to more modern prototypes.
The Olive Garden sponsorship which used to be on 333SPs has gone to the Lola-Judd of Team Rafanelli and Toshiba Copiers have gone to the Cadillac Team, with the ex-Ferrari drivers Wayne Taylor/Max Angelelli/Eric van de Poele.
Only in the European-based SportsRacing World Cup will Ferrari 333SPs still be seen in reasonable numbers but this is probably because the privateer teams, which make up this series, are not yet in budgetary positions to acquire the latest sports prototypes.
