SRWC : Barcelona : JP-Giesse’s 333SP Takes the Win
26.3.00

The first round of the 2000 SportsRacing World Cup took place at Barcelona. The 23-car field included six Ferrari 333SPs and there were several other leading prototypes present, including the first European appearance of the Cadillac Northstar of the Motorola DAMS team. The Panoz Spyder was also making its SRWC debut in the hands of the Danish drivers Nielsen/Thyrring.

Qualifying gave pole position to the GLV Brums 333SP of Lavaggi/Filliberti, followed by the Cadillac of Bernard/Collard and the Lola of Glasel/Kelleners. The JB-Giesse 333SP of Pescatori/Terrien was in fourth slot.

The race was a head-to-head between the two front-running Ferraris, with lead drivers Pescatori and Lavaggi fighting an exciting tussle. Following a slow pit stop by Lavaggi/Filliberti, the rival JB-Giesse team finally stamped their authority on the race and took the win by 19 secs after 2½ hours of racing.

The Riley & Scott of Baldi/Formato finished third, ahead of the two BMS Scuderia Italia 333SPs of M. Zadra/Peter and Calderari/Bryner/A. Zadra.

The second round of the championship will take place at Monza on 16 April.
