One Lone F333SP at the Daytona 24 Hours
21.1.01

The Risi Competizione Ferrari Team, based in Houston, Texas will be the only team to field one of the obsolete F333SP's at the Daytona 24-hours on February 3-4, 2001.

The team will field the No. 12 Ferrari 333 SP, driven by Ralf Kelleners, 2000 ALMS champion Allan McNish, and Risi Ferrari team regular Eric van de Poele. Additionally, the team is waiting for final word on a fourth potential driver for the Daytona event - David Brabham.

The 24-hour endurance classic will feature a brand new beautiful red V-12 Ferrari 333 SP in what many expect to be her "swan song". Looking likely to be the only Ferrari 333 SP to enter the twice-around-the-clock race this year, the Risi Ferrari will have to hold off an assault from much newer Sports Racers which are going to be quicker but not necessarily as strong.

"The Ferrari is still a competitive car for the Daytona 24 Hour race," said Technical Director John McLoughlin. "Although we don't feel she can really be as competitive in the sprint races against the newer makes, for an endurance race like Daytona, the Ferrari still has potential."

The last ever Ferrari 333 SP, chassis number 37, is en route for delivery to the Risi Competizione team for car owner and collector Phil Bennett. "I have an affection for the Ferrari 333 and the Daytona 24 Hour race," said Bennett, who is a part owner and operates an international financial services business in New York. "This is an unique opportunity to have this car campaigned by the best team currently preparing the Ferrari 333 SP. The fact that these talented drivers are competing in this year's Rolex 24 Hours will give the car a history which is appropriate for the last version of the 333 SP."
