Visit To Silverstone F1 Test Day
24.6.01
by Adam Kerrison

It started out cloudy but the day soon became hot and sunny. The cars hit the track at about 10am.

The Ferrari pavillion was right by the pit lane exit so we all got a good view as the cars left the pits. We also had a great view of the start line practicing.

I didn't get any information on how well the Ferraris performed but they sounded much better then most of the others (the engine is just so smooth) and looked the best on the track (obviously!). They must have done better than Williams (one car failed within 600 yds of the pit exit, and they had two or three other attempts towed back in) and Jordan (also towed back in)

We had a chance to go to the pits for a quick tour and my group was lucky enough to be there just as Michael and Rubens got into the cars for another practice session - you can see the concentration on Michael's face even before the car is moving - just incredible.

On the way back from the pits I spotted an F50 at the back of another team's pit section (Williams I think!) - nice to see the other teams acknowledge the best :-)

Later in the day Rubens came over to the pavillion for a short interview and signed a few autographs. Michael was due to come but delayed his interview until 4pm but unfortunately I had to leave before then so I missed him.

All in all, the day was excellent. The general concensus was that the test day is better than race day because you get closer to the action, the drivers and get better photo opportunities!
