FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
REPORT : ROUND 4 : MIRA : 29 MAY 1999

Nobody needs convincing now that Robin Ward is in a different league. Already in a strong lead in this year's championship, Robin drove his 308GTB around The Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA) sprint course to a comfortable scratch win, easily collecting the maximum championship points available.

A smaller than usual turnout of Ferraris was a result of the organising club, Midland AC, being heavily over-subscribed entry-wise. Half a dozen Ferraris were rejected, leaving just eight runners, reduced to seven when Stuart Bailey's 246GT suffered terminal mechanical failure before he left home.

The weather was good and there looked like an interesting contest between Geoff Dark and Robin Ward, both in 308GTBs. It was not to be, Robin simply romped away from the opposition demolishing Geoff and the well-driven 328s of John Marshall and Len Watson. Len, second to Robin in practice, slipped to fourth in the afternoon runs. Robin Ward ran out over a second ahead of John Marshall, in turn a second clear of Geoff Dark. Robin Ashley was close behind with his 246GTS to finish second on the championship points scale.
