FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
REPORT : ROUND 7 : PRESCOTT : 26/27 JUNE 1999

Robin Ward returned to the fray in his newly repaired 308GTB, joining a strong field of nine Ferraris who buckled down to practice on Saturday in perfect weather. Geoffrey Rollason's F355 F1 was quickest in practice, not far from his class record, but John Marshall was showing resolve in his 328GTB and was second quickest at this stage, followed by Geoff Dark (308GTB).

Sunday's weather was very wet for the first runs and amazingly John Marshall was given a time some 3-4 seconds quicker than anyone else. He was followed at a very respectful distance by Rollason, Ward and Goodwin (Mondial t).

For the second and decisive runs, the track was almost completely dry and this time Rollason hit the front but only 3/10ths ahead of Marshall's less powerful 328. Into third place came the Mondial of Jon Goodwin, followed very closely by Geoff Dark. Nick Frost, in his beautiful and rare 348GTC, continued to impress, with an excellent second run time that gave him fifth place.

With the PEPs applied, Marshall took the maximum 20 points, ahead of Dark and Goodwin. On the cumulative points table, Marshall has now also moved ahead of Ward, with Dark in a very close third place. Over the next couple of events, some of the front runners will have to start dropping points as only the best eight rounds count. This will alter the points table and a clearer picture will emerge.
