FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
The well-organised meeting allowed for the customary four practice runs, despite the weekend being part of the busy RAC British Hillclimb Championship. The two 328s of Allen and John Marshall put down the quickest practice times, being the only two cars in the 38 sec. bracket. Dark and Ward were barely separable at this stage : 39.12 vs. 39.20. The first competition runs on Sunday immediately brought the scratch winner, when Allen took his 328 to the finish in 37.88 with a very hard-trying Ward taking over one second off his practice best to clock 38.18 ahead of Marshall and Dark at 38.34 and 39.62 respectively. Chris England (308GTS) squeezed under the 40 sec. mark with a 39.99, ahead of Mike Spicer's 308GT4. With the PEP factors applied, Robin Ward took the maximum 14 points that were available, whereas Geoff Dark was only able to add seven to his tally. All is not over yet because it is still mathematically possible for Dark to win the Championship, provided he takes maximum points from the next round. All eyes therefore will be on Shelsley Walsh on September 12th.
