FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
REPORT : ROUND 13 : SHELSLEY WALSH : 11/12 SEPTEMBER 1999

Eight Ferraris contested the Midland Automobile Club's two-day meeting. Not only were three F355s there but all of the top six in the Championship were present.

Practice was already dominated by Jon Goodwin (F355), with a time under the Ferrari class record. Also under the record was Richard Allen (F355) and a smidgen behind came Geoff Rollason (F355 F1).

The first competitive runs saw Goodwin with a small advantage because, following a sticking clutch on the start line, he was able to re-take his run later on. He set a stunning time of 34.61 seconds, well under the previous record, and was followed by Rollason on 35.23 and Allen on 35.43.

Amongst the front-runners in the Championship, Geoff Dark was just ahead of Robin Ward, with Len Watson next.

The second runs saw slower times amongst the 355s and the class order therefore remained Goodwin, Rollason and Allen - all with highly competitive times. Ward, however, managed to improve to 36.46, which took him just ahead of Dark on 36.72, with again Len Watson bring up the next spot. Mike Spicer and John Marshall took the remaining places.

With the PEP factors applied, Jon Goodwin took the maximum 18 points, Robin Ward got 15 and Richard Allen 13.

The Championship now moves to Longleat on 25th September, which should see the first-ever competition appearance by a 360 Modena!
