FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
Shelsley is a tricky place whatever the weather, but this weekend we were to be plagued by inconsistent weather conditions. At the practice on Saturday the early starters had to suffer very wet conditions as shown by the significantly slower times. The later runners had improved conditions, although the course was still slippery. Overnight there had been significant rainfall but the weather looked hopeful, although the forecast didn't. As it turned out we were in for heavy showers with intermittent hot sunshine for the rest of the day, making it all a potential lottery.
Although Geoff Rollason had his powerful F355 going well, it was Richard Allen in his 328GTB who gained the class win. John Marshall, also in a 328, was however very much the star of the show as he seriously flung his car up the hill on his second run to take second place on scratch and, with the inclusion of the PEP factors, gain the maximum 20 Championship points.
The big attraction in the Ferrari class and much admired in the Paddock was Martin McGlone's 275GTB/C which, with its side exhausts, howled wonderfully as it ascended this extremely fast hill.
