FERRARI HILLCLIMB CHAMPIONSHIP
REPORT : ROUND 11 : HAREWOOD

Harewood always attracts a good entry and for this return visit to the hill a quality field of 17 Ferraris turned up. Summer had also arrived and it was Harewood at its best: dry, sunny, warm, with the track in excellent condition.

Not unexpectedly, it was local maestro Simon Clark (328GTS) who once again took the class win, but only a 10th of a second ahead of Richard Allen in his ex-Maranello 'O' class 328GTB.

Richard Baker produced his best result ever with an inspired drive into third in his 308GT4 and was over a second quicker than the similar tipo of the much-fancied Geoff Dark. Chris England (308GTS) took fourth spot, ahead of an off-form John Swift, whose 308GTB engine was now running much cleaner thanks to mid-week fettling by Mark Leighton.

Simon Clark has therefore taken good wins at both of the Harewood rounds, although the magical goal of cracking the class record held by Christian Mineeff has eluded him for another year.

Taking into account the various PEP factors, it was Richard Baker who took maximum points with his excellent result, with Robin Ashley (246GTS) in second place following yet another remarkable time in his little yellow Dino.

As far as cumulative points standing is concerned, there has been something of a shuffle around. Because of his recent PEP reclassification, Geoff Dark had to drop 30 points and has therefore fallen from second to seventh in the Championship. Robin Ashley, in his Dino, now becomes the new overall leader but tying for second place are now John Marshall and Richard Baker. It is going to become awfully close at the top of the table by the time this season is over.
