GOODYEAR MARANELLO FERRARI CHALLENGE
RACE REPORT : ROUND 4 & 5 : SPA FRANCORCHAMPS

PADDOCK STORIES

  • Don't believe everything you read in your Autosport Guide, as Terry Esom did. Blanchimont is not flat and if you try it you will park your Ferrari into the Armco, as Terry Esom did.

  • Ian Hetherington's gutsy race in his F50 is thought to be the first competition appearance ever of this tipo. Does anyone know otherwise? Do not include the F50GT which, despite much testing, was rejected by the Factory as being totally uncompetitive against the then dominant McLaren F1s. Hetherington's drive earned him sixth and seventh place in, at times, difficult track conditions.

  • The Management certainly know how to enjoy themselves: the Swifts were spotted watching the Canadian GP thriller in the Alesi Suite of their hotel, surrounded by bits of Alesi memorabilia including the ubiquitous pair of sweaty overalls.

  • Lugging a hefty F512M engine out of the chassis is no mean task and the official workshop time is 40 hours. Cosby's men managed it in three. No doubt he will remember to pay them 13 times the hourly rate of a Maranello mechanic.

  • To save himself from having to wait until the end of the meeting before transporters and trailers can be moved from the Paddock, Ray Ferguson bravely decided to take his smart aluminium box trailer out via the Paddock tunnel. Opinion is divided as to whether his trailer is now slightly smaller or whether the tunnel now has a slightly larger bore.
